Sparkling Wine Cocktails for Summer

Howdy Y’all,

As good as the weather year we’ve had this year, the dog days of Summer have finally descended upon us. The best way to battle the heat is with a refreshing sparkling wine cocktail. There’s something about some bubbles, some mixers, some ice, and a slice of fruit that just works on days when the birds have to use potholders to pull a worm out of the ground.

To help y’all beat the heat, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite sparkling wine cocktails. But remember, when choosing sparkling wine for cocktails, it’s generally accepted that you should use sparkling wine that is good enough to drink on its own. You don’t have to break the bank, but the better the wine, the better the cocktail. I think a decent quality prosecco would work very well for most of these.

I’m not putting the exact recipes because there is a myriad of variations. Rather, this list is to inspire you to find the recipe that sounds good to you. A good resource I’ve found is a website called “The Spruce Eats” So here we go!

  • French 75 - Sparkling wine (preferably a French Cramant), lemon juice, gin or brandy and simple syrup, lemon slice or twist

  • Aperol Spritz - Sparkling wine , Aperol Liqueur, crushed ice, orange slice

  • Sparkling Wine Spritz - Sparkling wine, sparkling water, crushed ice and a squeeze of citrus. You can use a sweeter sparkling wine for this drink since the sparkling water cuts the sweetness.

  • Negroni Sbagliato - Campari Bitter Liqueur, Sweet Vermouth, and Prosecco.

  • Bellini - Prosecco, peach puree or nectar, lemon juice.

  • Kir Royale - Sparkling wine, crème de cassis or Chambord, lemon twist.

  • Air Mail - Sparkling wine, rum, lime juice, honey.

  • Lone Ranger - Sparkling wine, tequila, lime juice, simple syrup.

  • Mimosa - Sparkling wine and orange juice measured with your heart.

I hope this inspires you to try a sparkling wine cocktail the next time your out on the porch/pool/deck. Slainte’!
